Your final survey responses have been tallied and we thank the 110 property owners who took the time to answer and return them to us along with many additional comments. That’s a response rate of 47.6% that by all standards is an extremely good return rate!
Of all the respondents, 31.4% have owned property for over 20 years in the subdivision and another 21.9% for 1 to 3 years with 71.6% being full time residents.
Our Saturday meeting times were convenient for 56.4% of you, while the rest would prefer the meetings to be held on either a different day or time. Of those dates and times suggested, there was no clear consensus with days being split between weekends and weekdays with morning, afternoon and evening meeting times suggested. On the question of looking into a newer facility to replace the clubhouse, 36.1% disagreed and 37.1% responded neutral or not applicable.
48% of you said that message boards would be a good way to keep everyone informed and 40.3% said to send you an email. Some type of message board is in the works. In the meantime, monthly meeting minutes are being posted on the existing signage at both beach areas. Other announcements and items of interest will also be posted there on a regular basis. If you want to be notified by email, please send us an email at WCC@lakewandawega.com to be added to the list.
WCC community events have been attended by 64.8% of you and were rated Excellent/Good by 79.7%. We look forward to seeing you at the August 11th, Bash on the Beach. And based on responses … Might there be something brewing for October? Could the Pig Roast be back next year? If you are interested in helping to plan/organize, give Joyce Hayward a call at 742-5249.
The beaches are used by 65.1% of you with both the east and west beach being used about equally. Of those, 56.6% give the beach areas an overall rating of Excellent/Good (39.5% as Fair) with 65.7% rating their experience at the beaches as Excellent/Good (29.9% as Fair). Judging from the many comments, cleanliness and grooming of the beach areas are a concern. It was felt that people should be a bit neater at the beach areas with cans, bottles, pop-tops and cigarette butts among the most commonly mentioned left behind trash. Trash receptacles are provided and it would be great if everyone would use them. If you are a smoker, please use an empty can, bottle, or bring a small piece of tin foil to discard your butts in until you can place them in one of the trash cans located at the beach.
Dogs at the beach and within the subdivision are also a concern to many of you. 74.4% of you believe that dogs should be in the owners “immediate presence and under their effective control” at all times. The Town of Sugar Creek has an ordinance stating this and it may be necessary to begin enforcing it if pet owners do not cooperate. The best, and most effective solution … keep your dog on a leash whenever you take them off your property. Just a reminder: Signs posted at both beaches clearly state: “No Dogs Allowed on the Beach”.
Comments also revealed that a few more picnic tables at the beach areas would be good to have along with more sand that was ordered and delivered a few weeks ago.
There were several action items that the majority of you felt were worth pursuing such as marker buoys for the swim areas (88.2%) and a Slow/No Wake ordinance on the lake (75.4%). Both of these will require additional research and will ultimately need approval from the Town of Sugar Creek and the WDNR.
The Nature Trail runs along the north side of the lake from beach to beach and is used by 39.2% of you. Many of you (27.5%) were not aware of the trail.
The nature trail can be accessed from both beach areas, but depending on how high the water is in the lagoon you may not be able to go from beach to beach. You can find the middle of the trail right down from Evergreen Lane. We’ll be looking into some type of markings for the entryways, to make the trail more identifiable.
